Syamsudin Noor Airport Expansion Set To Start

JAKARTA – Angkasa Pura Airtports set to start the first phase of ground breaking of Syamsudin Noor Airport at 25 September 2014 with around 900 bilion rupiah investment. The ground breaking of Banjarbaru based airport is predicted to finish in next 18 months. “We will start the first phase of ground breaking with around Rp. 900 billion, it is according to what we currently need, the investment might still raise and we will use our own money from internal corporation.” Said corporate secretary of Angkasa Pura Airports I Farid Indra Nugraha

The ground-breaking process located in Banjarbaru District consists of two phases, the first one is to build a new building next to the existing Syamsudin Noor Airport. The second phase will focus on demolishing the existing airport and the land will be merge with the new airport building. Given the ground breaking finishes, passengers terminal will be larger from 9,043 meter squares (m2) to 90,000 (m2), as for apron it will be 125,412 m2 from previously 80.412 m2 and able to accommodate 20 airplanes. Besides, the second phase will cover to extend the 3000 meters runway and taxiway parallel.

Currently, the local government has prepared the accesses to airport and the land for the new building. Farid also stated that Syamsudin Noor Airport later would be equal in level to Mutiara Airport (Palu, Central Sulawesi). This ground breaking process of the gate entrance to Kalimantan isle, is aimed to increase the airport capacity.

The number of attendance mostly out of capacity in holiday season. In 2012, Syamsudin Noor could accommodate to 800 thousands attendance per year and increased to 3.6 millions in 2014. “When the new building finishes, the capacity will be up to 5 millions attendance, so that the total capacity in a year could reach 9 millions per year.” He added
